Police have charged a man they said burglarized and terrified homeowners in Lawrenceville and several other communities.

Police charged Tony Montgomery, 27, in connection with the burglaries. Police said they were able to track down the suspect, who is homeless, after he sold the stolen items.

Investigators hope the recent burglaries and arrest will force homeowners to lock their doors and windows, because they said that's all Montgomery needed to break into a house while the owner was away or sleeping.

Police said Montgomery is tied to burglaries in Lawrenceville, Friendship and Bloomfield this month.

According to the criminal complaint, Montgomery took electronics, jewelry and money.

One of the victims told Channel 11 News that the suspect stole her family's belongings, but took their sense of security, too.

“My son and I are very scared,” the woman said. “It’s somebody invading your home, where you feel safe and secure."

Montgomery faces charges that include burglary, attempted burglary and receiving stolen property.
